This is one of the more powerful telephotos available, and reasonably priced. I had to put my camcorder in macro zoom mode and manual focus to get it to focus at the extreme zoom setting. I bought this to film speakers at a podium from the back of an auditorium, using a tripod and not changing the shot very often. If I needed to move around a lot, this wouldn’t be a good lens because of the need to autofocus at the high zoom setting. If you are using the lower zoom setting, say up to 2x vs 4x, the autofocus still works.

  2. Worked perfectly with my new SR12 Sony digital video cam corder. Really love this lens. With a tripod, allowed us to get close up shots of the total solar eclipse in Mongolia on August 1st, and of the Olympics in Beijing a week later.

  3. The teleconverter is not sharp enough, especially for a high-def camcorder. I made a test: took the same shot with the converter and without; I blew the second one up 4x in Photoshop. There is not an appreciable difference. Therefore it is not worth it. I would not buy it again. The reason I did not return it is my lazyness.
